Cocktails with celebs in Tribeca for $25,000...
President Obama was in New York last week for big-ticket fundraisers, reportedly raising close to $5 million, and now the Big Apple is getting some love from First Lady Michelle Obama, who will continue her busy schedule of fundraising on Monday, March 19th. Mrs. Obama will attend a cocktail reception hosted by Robert De Niro and his wife Grace Hightower De Niro, as well as Whoopi Goldberg, TV commentator Star Jones, actors Angela Bassett, Lynn Whitfield, and Alfre Woodard; Tina Knowles, mom of Beyonce. Tonya Lewis Lee, wife of film director Spike Lee, who previously hosted a dinner fundraiser for the President in their New York Home home a few months ago, is also a host. Tickets for the 6:00 PM event start at $5,000 and go up to $25,000. The reception will be at the Locanda Verde restaurant, located in De Niro's chic Tribeca hotel, The Greenwich. The host committee also includes Peg Alston and Lisa Ellis. Proceeds benefit the Obama Victory Fund.
Mrs. Obama's fundraising schedule has picked up lately. The First Lady will travel to Boston this Friday, March 9, for two fundraisers at the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, which have similar ticket prices to the New York event. (Above: The invitation)
On Monday of this week, Mrs. Obama visited St. Louis and Kansas City for two fundraisers, and visited Raleigh and Charlotte, N.C. last Friday. At the end of February she was in Cincinnati, OH and Louisville, KY for fundraisers.
President Obama's events in New York last week included a $35,800 per plate dinner held at ABC Kitchen, an organic restaurant owned by celeb chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. There was also a reception at ABC Carpet & Home, where donors rocked with the President to live tunes by The Roots and Ben Folds.
The Greenwich is located at 377 Greenwich Street, New York, NY.
