President Obama's favorite piemaker trades his chefs whites for a cap & gown...
Angelenos will have a chance to see White House Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses in person when he makes a trip to the West Coast to give a guest lecture at UCLA about science and cooking. Yosses will speak about "The Sweet Science of Desserts" on Saturday, June 9 at the Westwood campus. The open-to-the-public-by-popular-demand event is part of the university's lecture series for a new General Education course, 'Science & Food: the physical and molecular origins of what we eat,' taught by Prof. Amy Rowat. Yosses' newest White House recipe, Steamed Lemon Pudding, created for last week's State Dinner for the UK, is a pretty excellent experiment in molecular dynamics. The President's favorite piemaker has twice lectured at Harvard about science and cooking, as well as locally in DC. Yosses "is committed to exploring the intersection of food and science to promote a better understanding of both fields and as a source of education to further Mrs. Obama's goal of fostering healthful and delicious eating habits," notes the bio posted on UCLA's website.
LA chefs Sherry Yard of Spago and Jimmy Shaw of Lotería Grill will also make presentations during the 10:00 AM-1:00 PM event. Tickets are $20 for general admission, and free for students with valid ID. FULL DETAILS HERE.
