The White House today issued a statement from President Obama about Ash Wednesday. A visit to a church to mark the beginning of Lent is not listed on the President's daily schedule; joined by First Lady Michelle Obama, the President today delivered remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. At 4:10 PM, the Obamas will host a closed-press reception in the East Room in honor of the museum. The President's statement:
"Today, Michelle and I honor Ash Wednesday with Christians around the country and across the world. This is at once a solemn and joyous occasion, an opportunity to remember both the depths of sacrifice and the height of redemption. We join millions in entering the Lenten Season with truly thankful hearts, mindful of our faith and our obligations to one another."
