Fort Worth, Texas: In this photo, First Lady Michelle Obama and Senior Policy Advisor for Healthy Food Initiatives Sam Kass arrive through the back entrance of an Olive Garden restaurant on Thursday evening for dinner with eight guests. It was the third event of the first day of the Let's Move! birthday tour, which included stops in Iowa and Arkansas. Mrs. Obama's official White House lensman and an aide are at right. She arrived shortly after 6:00 PM after flying in to Love Field in Dallas. CLICK HERE for a full post about the dinner.
Above, Mrs. Obama's very simple place setting included a name card and a three-course menu with selections from Olive Garden's "healthy fare" offerings. The menu included calorie counts for the dishes.
Mrs. Obama dined on the Garden Fresh Salad with low-fat dressing (100 calories); Minestrone Soup (100 calories), Venetian Apricot Chicken, with grilled breasts in an apricot citrus sauce, served with broccoli, asparagus and diced tomatoes (400 calories); and Limoncello Mousse with Vanilla Cookie Crust for dessert (230 calories). Mrs. Obama had the same dish when she joined Olive Garden parent company Darden Restaurants, Inc., to announce their major commitment to the Let's Move! campaign. Kass had he same starters as his boss, and ordered the Capellini Pomodoro, made with Roma tomatoes, fresh basil extra-virgin olive oil for his entree (480 calories) and the Strawberry Mousse with White Chocolate Cream Cake (210 calories). Bottles of Pellegrino and Evian were on the table; Mrs. Obama had still water.
The First Lady's guests, all parents, were selected by the White House because they are working on child health initiatives in their communities. They included Andrea Breedlove; Cynthia Foster; Jenny Hogan; Cassandra Leach; Richard and Carrie Martinez; and Jason and Andrea Roberts.
Located in a sprawling shopping mall off the 35 highway, the Olive Garden Mrs. Obama visited was at 9333 Rain Lily Trail.
