Joining Forces screening for episode that airs Jan. 16th...
For her first non-campaign public event of 2012, First Lady Michelle Obama on Friday morning joins the cast of Nickelodeon’s iCarly at Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria, Virginia, for a special screening of the episode she guest stars in, “iMeet The First Lady." Mrs. Obama and cast members including star Miranda Cosgrove (Carly) and Jennette McCurdy (Sam) will participate in iCarly’s “Random Dancing” and answer questions from the students. The First Lady last showed off her dance moves at a school in May of 2011, joining kids for a "flash dance" workout created by popstar Beyoncé for the Let's Move! campaign.
The visit to Hayfield is the last stop on a tour for the iCarly cast, who this week visited three military bases to screen the episode for military kids. The school has "a large number of military children," according to the East Wing. (Above: Mrs. Obama with from l McCurdy and Cosgrove during the show)
Mrs. Obama filmed her two scenes for “iMeet the First Lady” last summer in Los Angeles, to support her Joining Forces campaign. Onscreen, Mrs. Obama visits Carly after learning that the webcasting teen's father, an Air Force pilot, has had his return home delayed by another redeployment. Mrs. Obama talks with Carly about her service to America as a member of a military family, and thanks her friends for supporting her during her father’s deployment. She also participates in a regular feature of the hit kids' show, "Random Dancing."
Mrs. Obama has said that iCarly is a favorite of daughters Malia and Sasha, something she repeats during the episode. It premieres on Nickelodeon on Monday, January 16th at 7:30/6:30PM C.
Cosgrove and the iCarly cast this week visited Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, San Diego, California; Naval Submarine Base, New London, Groton, Connecticut and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, Wrightstown, New Jersey.
