The White House today announced that First Lady Michelle Obama will participate in the fifth annual BET HONORS 2012, a show celebrating outstanding achievements in music, literature, entertainment, media, service and education. It tapes on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the historic Warner Theater in Washington, DC. Honorees are poet Maya Angelou, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, filmmaker Spike Lee, The Tuskegee Airmen and educator Beverly Kearney.
Gabrielle Union serves as host for the show, which also features celebrity award presenters and performances by Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Cicely Tyson, Common, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrance Howard, Jill Scott, John Singleton, and Willow Smith.
Mrs. Obama will be celebrating with friends: Wonder gave a command performance at the White House for President Obama's fiftieth birthday party in August. Smith, Scott, Franklin, Labelle, and Common have all performed at the White House.
The show premieres on Monday, February 13, at 9:00 PM on BET during Black History Month. Proceeds from private ticket sales will be given to Metro TeenAIDS.
