"Mrs. Easter Bunny" poses with a young guest as her parents snap a photo by the Eggtivity Zone on the South Lawn. A series of White House staffers wear the bunny suits throughout the day, and it's usually "top secret" who is behind the tall ears and eye glasses.
More than 5,000 volunteers worked at the event on the South Lawn and as guests entered on the National Mall beyond. About 14,500 hard boiled eggs were used during the day for the Easter Egg Rolling race and the Egg Hunt. The race is conducted by moving the eggs along a course with wooden spoons.
Above, at the Easter Egg Rolling race course, a young guest waves before she enters the race, as a volunteer holds a crate of extra hard boiled eggs. The President and Mrs. Obama visited the Egg Rolling course after their brief opening remarks.
