Obama for America Campaign Video: First Lady Responds To Twitter Questions

How do you get kids to eat healthy? What are your hopes and dreams?...
In a new 6+-minute video released today by President Obama's re-election HQ, Obama for America, First Lady Michelle Obama answered four questions sent in to her @MichelleObama Twitter account. She discussed her "hopes and dreams" for daughters Malia and Sasha, her role models (her parents) and responded at the 4:41 mark to a question about getting kids to "eat healthy." Mrs. Obama has just returned from a three-day tour celebrating the second anniversary of Let's Move!, and today she also has an editorial on CNN about her campaign, and another video responding to questions (CLICK HERE).

The healthy eating Q: "When you girls were younger, did you have any difficulty getting them to eat healthy? Any tips for the under-5 crowd?"

"Our kids did not come into this world as vegetable fans," Mrs. Obama said. "They were like every other kid so it wasn't easy to get them focused on eating what was right for them."

Mrs Obama advised parents to have "fresh produce around and available and easy for them to access."

"It tastes so much better when it's fresh which is one of the reasons that we're working to improve access to fresh produce in communities across the country."

Another piece of advice: Let kids be the deciders.

"The other thing that helps kids is letting them pick which fruits and vegetables they like and then making that food available at home," Mrs. Obama said. "For example I like to leave a bowl of fresh fruit in the kitchen so its easy for the girls to reach and to have that more available than cookies and other snacks."

"You're definitely on the right track if you're staring early. It's much easier to get kids to eat healthy foods if they're started young."
