MyPlate Video Challenge Winners

Secretary Vilsack unveils grand prize winners for USDA contest...

More than 140 amateur foodie filmmakers entered a USDA contest to create videos about the MyPlate message of filling half the plate at mealtimes with fruit and vegetables, and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has unveiled the winners. Launched in September, the contest offered prizes totaling $9,000 for three categories, with three winners and a Popular Choice selection in each: Tips For Kids, Tips When Eating At Home, and Tips When Eating Away From Home. Entries came from schools, community groups, and families, and USDA also named 5 honorable mentions. The super cute video above, "The Fruit and Veggie Pokey!" is the Popular Choice winner in the Tips For Kids category. View all the submissions here.

The 1st prize winner for Tips for Eating at Home is The Wrap Rap:

MyPlate was unveiled last June by USDA and First Lady Michelle Obama to support the Let's Move! campaign, and encourages citizens to eat according to the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. USDA is in the midst of highlighting the second in a series of themed consumer messages supporting the MyPlate graphic icon – "Enjoy Your Food, But Eat Less." It is being promoted for the next three months in conjunction with more than 5,000 organizations participating in the MyPlate Nutrition Communicators Network. A Spanish language edition, MiPlato, has also been launched.
